Yinka Shonibare’s
exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture
The exhibition features over 30 vibrant works from the period 2002 – 2013 including sculpture, film, photography, painting and collage etc. It was held on the 27th of June 2013 and held at auditorium at 10.00 with a fee of adults at £40.00 and concessions at £20.00 (under the age of 16). When you bought a ticket for the event you automatically got a 10% discount to spend on the day in the YSP shop, resturant, or cafe, even though lunch was not included in with the tickect. Yink Shonibare's exhibition had it's own catalogue at the age of at £15.00. Her exhibition featured Wind Sculptures and six metre-high fibre glass forms in batik designs.Revoloutins kids was also featured in the exhibition take more of a political turn with batik-clad figures with foxes heads, which is based on the Arab Spring and the riots that happened in London, and how the police were suprised by the power of social media. The golden gun is a replica of the one found with Colonel Gaddafi, when he was capture in libya. The significance of the fox head is that aristocracy who hunt down the fox.
The health and safety considerations are that there probably was rope round the sculpture so that the people walking round the sculptures will not harm the sculptures. There was probably no food and drink allowed at the exhibition so that the sculptures do not get effected and damaged in anyway. Guards in the room for sculptures so that they can make sure there is no one trying to harm or dismantel the sculptures in the exhibition.

KTA 3: Events and Exhibitions Scripts
They have a strict guest list so they have no unwanted guests turning up to the event which their target audience was VIP/Celebrities interested in music and fashion, funders or sponsors to know what they're funding, key people from sheffield's music, art and creative scene, journalists, bloggers, and people who dress up.The image they used on the leaflets and invitations and advertisements was an approved image of Vivienne Westwood.
At the Launch event there was a red carpet and photographers at the entrance.
The reason they held the exhibition in the Millennium Galleries is that it is a purpose built gallery and an event space and an experienced team of staff working their who have worked at previous exhibitions before.
Health and safety at the exhibition that all the event was on one level, there was lifts at the gallery entrance, the venue has alcohol licence, their was no drinks allowed in the gallery space to protect the exhibition, all the cables were taped down. they had a risk assessment carried out, and kept to the risk assessment carried out, they also kept to the legal capacity of 1000. Also all the creative aspects had to be approved by her team.
The venue has £6 full price and £4 commission to the event which helped towards the £1 million that they raised for Sheffield.
The Dresses on show was listed in chronological order as Vivienne Westwood requested and they had ropes around all the clothes to protect them from being touched by all the visitors. The exhibition was closed of event which means it stopped and offence being caused.

KTA 2: Industry professional notes of launches at DocFest and Millennium Galleries
Case study 1: Millennium Galleries
Purpose - The purpose of the event was raise awareness of the new space available using a launch event, and to establish themselves to the right people to get themselves back in to the business.
Content: At the event its full of networking and raising awareness of the new available space in the galleries to all the artists and media professionals they invited to the event.
Funding - It was self funded (treated as an investment). They had £3000 for things such as staff, refreshments, catering, management etc, they also had free canopies. For the event they had 600 bottles of beer, 50 bottles of wine.
Target audience - Their target audience was anyone that will promote their new available space to help them restablish themselves and raise their awareness, people who may want to hire the spacer collabrate with them. Their specific target audience would be artists or media proffesionals between the ages 25-60 years old.
Design/style - On the invite they included a beer sponsor, most likley to let the guests know that their was beer available at the event. However music at the event should reflect their ethos so for this event they went for alternative 80's or 90's music to give that industrial feel so that it works nicely with the people they invited, or people attending the event.
Staff - All the staff were dressed in branded t-shirts so you could tell the guests apart from the staff. The staff were post a-level media students looking for any oppurtunity to get their name out there with the oppurtunity to network with people and for the experience they would gain from the event.
Food - They tried to fit the sheffield industrial style of the event, by serving yorkshire canopes made by Simon Ayres.
Location - The event was located on 99 mary street. To make it accessable to everyone they had a ramp at the entrance for anyone with a wheelchair which made the event accessable for wheelchair users, as well as the event all been on the first floor which makes it easier for wheelchair users. The event was also laid out so people could flow between two rooms.
Legal ethical - To hold the event with alchol they had to get a temporary alchol notice for
£21. Which had to be sent 10 working days before the event was held, but this license is only available if the event is for 499 people. However they did not need any permission for showreel as it was all their own work.

Health & Safety - The cables must have all been taped down so that no one trips over the loose wires. They must have ensured that the staff they hae working at the event know how to lift the boxes of beer and wine correctly and safely so they do not injure their back. They must have also sticked to the limited capacity as if they pass the capacity it can be both a health and fire risk.

Purpose - The purpose of the DocFest event is to watch films and network with other people, this is to entertain its audience as it is a huge international film festival which people come to from all over the world.

Content - At the event people come from all over the world to watch documentaries and industry seminars and networking with other people who attended the event in the afternoon. There has also been some very high profile guests attending the event. There has also been events like Sex & Docs &rock 'n' Rollerskating on Queens Road.
Funding - They had a combination of grant funds (Sheffield City Council, National Lottery, US embassy, Hallam University etc)
Design - They use music like from the 70's and 80's disco to create the 'old skool'' roller disco feel. They also played loud music to create a disc feel. DocFest logos had to be prominent as some of the guest aren't local to the area as people were coming from all over the world so they had to be sure that they knew they were in the right place and didn't feel lost. Invited guests and external signage was free but delegates the cost was £10.
Legal & ethical - No under 18's wee allowed to the event, proof of ID was required to prove age at the door to make sure everyone was above the age of 18.

KTA 1: Planning into Media events and exhibitions
Media events in Sheffield:
An event is a planned social occasion which usually involves a display which uses an exhibition which can be a display of someones work, this can either be visual or spoken. An example of a Media event would be Tramlines, or a festival of some kind or other.
Tramlines Festival: The purpose of Tramlines festival is to entertain the audience with live artists and acts of different genres of music, at different times of the day to vary their target audiences to a more wider range with different styles of music thrughout the festival.There is musicians from all around the world, from different genres to entertain the target audience.The target audience for the tramlines festival is for families as there is music at the festival to suit all ages, also children under the age of 5 go free to the event so this gives the impression that the festival is family-friendly. as 2013 is the first year they add a charge to the ticket at £6 at the main stages. The design and style of the tramlines festival is a casual social event for all family and friends.The tramlines festival is held at points throughout the Sheffield city centre, such as the Peace Gardens, Devonshire Green, Plug and The Leadmill and many other places.
The Last Laugh Comedy Festival: Is an event with over 90 acts in 30 days, with big known names in there. They have various comedians to suit everyone as everyone has different interests. This event runs through the month of October and is hosted by the Last Laugh Comedy Club which is held every weekend. This Comedy Festival has been held for the past 9 years in places like the City Hall, Lyceum, Lescar, Greystones etc.

The Children's Media Conference:
This media event is located on 68 Clarkehouse Road in Sheffield. They get together every early July. They have many sponsors such as Cbeebies and cbbc etc. Its a gathering in the UK for everyone involved in developing, producing and distributing content to kids, on all platforms. They welcome people from all sorts of areas of the media industries for example, TV, Interactive media, and radio etc.. The Children's Media Conference is a place where people can get involved in creative and business development for anyone who is distributing content to kids, on any or all platforms. This group is around to help meet people who are relevant to your business. Their annual meet up in July offer great opportunities for great content and great networking.
Mosborough Music Festival: This festival entertains its audience with music from the artists on the line up, at Don Valley. Drink are available till 9 as you are not allowed to bring your own beverages. At the event there is plenty of health and safety systems in place. They will have First Aid and St Johns on site at all times, and there will be disabled access. There will also be a Child Werfare Officer who will make an announcement if your child has got lost this suggests that the event is family and child friendly, this is also suggested by children under 13 being able to attend for free with ID with a paying adult. The tickets are £25 a day or £45 a weekend.

This event also gives people chance in the afternoon to network with other people to attend the event, as in the pas DocFest have had some very high profile guests attending the event.
Site Gallery Dust:
Taiwanese artist Wu Chi-Tsung comes to the UK to showcase 'Dust' at the site gallery. Wu Chi-Tsung uses everyday materials in inventive ways to capture the shadows of of invisible dust particles as they go round the audience, which create an amazing abstract piece which is projected on to the wall.
